Yarn Shop Hop

While we were on our business retreat we had to feed our yarn addiction.  We stop at several yarn shops and craft supply stores to fill up our stashes.  There are several between the beach and the mountains so we stopped at a few of them.
Our first stop was the yarn Mecca Friends and Fiberworks in Candler.  I was in overwhelm with all of my favorite yarns and accessories.  I found some great novelty yarn to make a summer shawl project from.  I am addicted to the polymer clay buttons they sale.  They are like candy.
Next I had to go to Earth Guild the craft supply store in downtown Asheville with all the unique products for handcrafted fiber projects.  Weaving, basketry, knitting, surface design, batik, etc.  I had to get supplies for my upcoming basket workshops I am teaching.
Next we went to the Knitting Diva yarn shop and teaching center in North Asheville.  The owner is a fellow UpLeveler and we got to chat about the healing properties of knitting and yarn. I got some wonderful bulky yarns and books and a handcrafted mug with my favorite phrase 'knitting is cheaper than therapy'.

Finally, on our layover in Chapel Hill due to the storm on super bowl Sunday we stopped at Downtown knits in Apex, NC.  Tad a 🎉  I was in heaven!  A yarn shop and a sewing center with all latest and trendy yarns and fabrics.  The owner and her teaching staff were warm and friendly.  A nice cozy place to take classes and just sit and stitch.

I am so happy that I was able to connect with other crafters as well as learn new business concepts at the retreat.  It was a perfect balance for me and I enjoyed getting out and about with my fellow 'Crafty Diva's.'

Calling Tiny Artist Event

I spent a awesome morning facilitating weaving at Kinnakeet Clay- Studio & Showroom for the 'Tiny Art Fundraiser being held at Indian Town Gallery next Thursday.  I got to meet some great local artist's and had lots of fun making and creating.  My daughter joined me also and made several pieces of tiny art.  Jenn @JypSea Fabrications by Jennifer Harmon wove a beautiful small tapestry for the show.  Antoinette of Kinnakeet Clay tapped into the weaving vortex too.  All in all a very creative morning.

Knitting Group

We had a nice beginning of the week yesterday during our Fiber Arts Workshop at Blue Pelican Gallery Gifts & Yarn.  Amy was back to finish up her beach tote.  Grand reveal next time.  Claudia is DONE knitting her summer t-shirt and learning to block it for her grand reveal.  She also learned how to use the yarn winder and that other contraption that remains nameless.  (I dislike winding yarn; if you can tell). We had a visitor from PA Marylou.  She stopped by to spend some time knitting on the great porch and work on knitting a baby sweater for her 10th great grandchild.  Could we all be so lucky!  She was truly a joy and a inspiration.  Join us next week.

Fiber Arts Workshop

I taught Jenn Johnson, the Owner/Artist of Blue Pelican Gallery Gifts & Yarn to crochet recently.  This past week she completed her first crochet project the 'Beach Tote.'  I'm so proud of her accomplishment and her use of colors in her design.  Now she has the perfect bag to tote around all of her crafty projects.  Come join us this summer at the gallery and create your own one-of-a-kind handbag!

First fiber arts open studio

Today we had our first Fiber Arts Open Studio at Blue Pelican Gallery in Hatteras.  The rain and flooded roads didn't dampen our spirits.  A few women braved the water and came down to meet us and sit and knit.  We had a great time meting new people and talking to customers who are vacationing on Hatteras Island.  You never know who you might meet.

Suzanne, learned how to increase (knit 1, Yarnover) for her triangle shawl.

Regena is learning the knit stitch and the purl stitch to make a hat.

Jenn (owner of Blue Pelican Gallery)  learned to weave in her loose ends to complete her projects.  Plus, her lovely cowl neck scarf sold today.  Same time, same place, next week join us from 10:00am - 1:00pm at Blue Pelican Gallery.  I will reveal our Studio project for October.

Yarn Addict

As most of you know I suffer from a very strange affliction.  I love wool, cotton, silk, bamboo, nylon and all kinds of natural and man made fibers.  I also love all the colors in the rainbow and more.  I adore texture, bits, bops, feathers and eyelash.  If you didn't know it by now, yes, my name is Michelle and I am a 'yarn addict.'  Everywhere I travel I look up the yarn shops in the area.  For the past 10 years I have been stopping by the Knitting Addiction shop first in Kill Devil then in Nags Head.  Now Jeanne the owner has taken her show on the road.  The Knitting Addiction Truck making its stops up and down Hatteras Island this summer.  Love it!!
